TrueCommerce Moves Its EDI Network Toward AI
TrueCommerce named a new AI-focused product chief on Aug. 26, 2026. Here's what EDI teams should track before their next roadmap review.
TrueCommerce names an AI-focused product chief
On August 26, 2026, TrueCommerce appointed Anthony Gallo as Chief Product Officer, putting him in charge of product strategy, management, and design across the entire platform. This is the first solid signal of what TrueCommerce's AI product officer appointment actually means in practice, and it's worth reading past the press-release language.
The scale here matters if you're one of the companies routing purchase orders, ASNs, and invoices through this network. TrueCommerce operates a global supply chain network that processes 600M transactions per year, connecting businesses to trading partners across 40+ countries. That's the pipe Gallo now owns. And the company was explicit about the mandate: it's investing in bringing together that network data, enterprise platforms, and AI to move customers beyond document exchange and toward more intelligent, automated supply chain operations, with Gallo brought in to lead the next phase of that work.
Who Gallo is, and why his background is the actual story
Gallo isn't an EDI or VAN veteran. He spent his most recent stretch at Kinaxis, a supply chain planning vendor, where he served as Vice President of Product Management, Platform Innovation and helped expand the company's supply chain planning platform into a global business. Before that he was Chief Product Officer at Tenovos and held product leadership roles at OpenText, including Vice President of Product Management for its Experience Cloud. TrueCommerce's own framing describes his expertise as deep expertise in AI, decision intelligence and digital customer experience.
Notice what's absent from that resume: no EDI VAN background, no X12/EDIFACT mapping pedigree. TrueCommerce hired a planning-and-decision-intelligence person to run its transaction network. That's a deliberate choice, and it tells you the roadmap is less about faster document routing and more about turning network transaction data into predictive signal, the kind of thing Kinaxis does for demand planning.
The timing isn't random
This appointment lands weeks after TrueCommerce expanded its e-invoicing infrastructure ahead of one of the biggest compliance deadlines on the European calendar. TrueCommerce is expanding its global reach to deliver secure, standardised electronic document exchange as an approved PEPPOL Access Point, and it has already been preparing for new digital invoicing mandates coming into force in Belgium, Croatia, Poland, and France throughout 2026. France is the one to watch closely.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| August 26, 2026 | TrueCommerce appoints Anthony Gallo as Chief Product Officer |
| September 2026 | Large enterprises in France must be able to receive electronic invoices |
| September 2027 | All French businesses, including SMEs, must be able to receive and send e-invoices |
So the CPO hire didn't happen in a vacuum. It happened right after a compliance push that expanded TrueCommerce's PEPPOL footprint, which gives Gallo a live, revenue-relevant use case for whatever "AI-driven modernization" ends up meaning on the product side.
What actually changes for EDI managers right now
Nothing breaks today. No maps stop working, no VAN connection drops. But if you manage trading partner connectivity through TrueCommerce, there are three things worth doing this quarter rather than waiting for a webinar to tell you:
- Ask your account rep directly what "AI-driven modernization" means for your existing Transaction Manager setup and mapping templates. Vague roadmap language from a press release isn't a commitment, and you want specifics before your next contract renewal conversation.
- Find out whether Gallo's roadmap comes with a deprecation timeline for any legacy interfaces. Product leadership changes at network providers have a track record of preceding UI overhauls and pricing changes, and you don't want to discover a sunset date in a support ticket.
- If you trade with France, check your partner list against TrueCommerce's PEPPOL access point coverage now. The September 2026 receiving deadline is close, and the 2027 sending deadline for smaller partners will arrive faster than it feels right now.
Part of a wider pattern among network providers
TrueCommerce isn't moving in isolation. SPS Commerce now describes itself as running an AI-powered supply chain network that supports over 300,000 trading relationships, processes more than 750 million transactions and over $650 billion in gross merchandise value annually, and it recently rolled out MAX, an agentic AI layer that is embedded directly into the SPS network, pairing agentic AI capabilities with the intelligence of a network built on more than 300,000 trading relationships. Cleo has staked out similar ground, positioning Cleo Integration Cloud as an AI-native supply chain orchestration platform that helps teams connect EDI, API, MFT, ERPs, WMS, TMS, and partner ecosystems in one coordinated flow.
The same shift is happening on the transport side. Carrier-connectivity platforms are pulling 204/210/214/990 EDI feeds into a single execution layer instead of leaving them as siloed document flows, an approach Cargoson and others in the transport management space are pushing alongside legacy TMS players. "Beyond EDI documents" has become the standard pitch across the network layer and the transport layer alike.
What to watch next
Keep an eye on TrueCommerce's product release notes and any roadmap webinars Gallo puts his name on before year-end. Watch whether the AI features that ship track more toward planning-style intelligence (forecasting, anomaly detection) or toward faster onboarding and mapping automation, since that split tells you whether his Kinaxis background is shaping the roadmap or just decorating the press release. And watch whether Cleo, SPS Commerce, or Orderful respond with comparable C-suite hires of their own. This is a leadership appointment, not a platform migration. But for a network moving 600 million transactions a year, it's the clearest public signal yet of where TrueCommerce plans to spend its product budget going into 2027.
